1

What does the Tension sensors principle establish, and what does it not establish?

Web or wire tension is often inferred from forces at a guide roller support. The result depends on web geometry, dead weight, friction and dynamics, not merely a single-axis force reading. The principle explains signal generation; it does not establish the range, accuracy, materials or approvals of every model. Review the physical principle and the application limits separately.

Verification: Confirm "Required total tension and tension-per-width definition" and assess "Converting roller resultant to tension needs explicit geometry and tension assumptions" against the actual application. Record the complete model and document revision used.

适用边界:Converting roller resultant to tension needs explicit geometry and tension assumptions

2

Is the required result measured directly or calculated from other inputs?

Define the quantity to be accepted before selecting a display unit. Web or wire tension is often inferred from forces at a guide roller support. The result depends on web geometry, dead weight, friction and dynamics, not merely a single-axis force reading. For "Required total tension and tension-per-width definition", document output definitions and conversion or compensation conditions; displaying a value does not make it a direct measurement under all conditions.

Verification: Document the process objective, units and reference conditions. Check "Treating roller support force as web tension directly" and list separate inputs and acceptance methods for calculated results.

适用边界:Treating roller support force as web tension directly

3

Which application information is needed before requesting a quotation?

Prepare at least these five input groups: Required total tension and tension-per-width definition; Entry/exit directions, wrap angle and sensor measurement direction; Roller dead weight, supports and force distribution; Speed, acceleration, friction and dynamic tension changes; Material width, temperature, environment and control interface. Mark unknown items for confirmation instead of substituting a normal point or an assumed default for all conditions.

Verification: Have process, instrumentation and purchasing roles agree the inputs, particularly "Entry/exit directions, wrap angle and sensor measurement direction". Resolve missing evidence before requesting application confirmation.

适用边界:Converting roller resultant to tension needs explicit geometry and tension assumptions

4

How should the range be chosen rather than copied from a nominal equipment rating?

Select the range from actual operating conditions and permissible error, then check extremes and installation constraints. For this family: Converting roller resultant to tension needs explicit geometry and tension assumptions Nominal size or maximum equipment rating need not equal the useful measuring interval.

Verification: List minimum, normal, maximum and abnormal conditions. Check "Roller dead weight, supports and force distribution" against the documented performance envelope.

适用边界:Converting roller resultant to tension needs explicit geometry and tension assumptions

5

Can a larger turndown claim or display rescaling fix poor low-end performance?

No. Low-end usability depends on the principle, available signal and error mechanisms. Static tare does not remove acceleration or bearing-friction effects More display digits, software scaling or a stated turndown cannot remove the original noise or installation error.

Verification: Obtain error definitions and limits at the actual low operating point. Use "Proportional bias: check wrap angle, width basis and calibration factor" to investigate bias instead of comparing only percent-of-full-scale values.

适用边界:Static tare does not remove acceleration or bearing-friction effects

6

How should compatibility with the measured object and materials be established?

Use the complete measured object and actual exposure, rather than a material name alone. Speed, acceleration, friction and dynamic tension changes Avoid this family-specific misuse: Retaining old scaling after changing wrap angle For non-wetted equipment, assess loads, target materials, signals and environmental compatibility instead.

Verification: List the actual contact or loading parts, seals, insulation and cleaning conditions. Have the responsible parties assess "Capacity must include roller weight and peak force, not target tension alone".

适用边界:Capacity must include roller weight and peak force, not target tension alone

7

Why must abnormal and environmental conditions be listed separately from normal operation?

Normal measurement, temporary excursions and survival limits are different requirements. Capacity must include roller weight and peak force, not target tension alone Start-up, cleaning, impacts, power interruption or abnormal environments can determine the necessary construction and protection.

Verification: Complete the worst-case conditions using "Material width, temperature, environment and control interface" and check "Side-to-side differences may indicate uneven loading or web tracking, not just noise". Separate continuous operating limits from temporary limits in the specification.

适用边界:Side-to-side differences may indicate uneven loading or web tracking, not just noise

8

Can the published instrument accuracy be used as the installed system accuracy?

Not without assessment. Apply traceable forces through a documented web geometry and load path and record roller weight separately; validate geometric conversion in the installed tension system, not just electrical simulation. The installed system also includes object, mounting, signal conversion, environmental and reference effects. Derived results additionally depend on the relevant input uncertainties.

Verification: Agree actual test points, installation conditions and the acceptance reference. Check "Fix and document web angles and measuring axes without force bypass" and document the system error or uncertainty basis.

适用边界:Static tare does not remove acceleration or bearing-friction effects

9

How should response time, filtering and a stable display be balanced?

A stable indication and fast change detection involve a trade-off; filtering cannot repair incorrect installation or real process variation. Speed-synchronous variation: inspect roller eccentricity, bearings and splices Review the complete chain when fast response matters, not merely the display refresh rate.

Verification: Define the shortest relevant event and acceptable delay. Check "Establish dead weight then validate with loads at the actual wrap geometry" and verify local output, display and receiving-system response using a controlled change.

适用边界:Masking roller eccentricity or real tension cycles with heavy filtering

10

Which typical applications fit, and which require a specific engineering review?

Typical contexts include: Film printing and laminating webs; Paper unwind/rewind tension monitoring; Wire and strip tension control. Similar application labels do not establish equivalent conditions. In particular, assess "Side-to-side differences may indicate uneven loading or web tracking, not just noise" before relying on another installation as proof.

Verification: Select the nearest application and compare "Required total tension and tension-per-width definition" and "Material width, temperature, environment and control interface". Obtain written confirmation where published application limits are exceeded.

适用边界:Side-to-side differences may indicate uneven loading or web tracking, not just noise

11

How should a complete order code be defined without unspecified standard options?

Translate required functions, performance and physical interfaces into verifiable options. Definitions of total tension, tension per width and measured resultant; Roller structure, installation direction and mechanical limits. Options affecting suitability or supply scope should be explicit; terms such as standard or same as existing are insufficient.

Verification: Check the complete order code and selection sheet, especially "Roller dead weight, supports and force distribution". List accessories, documents, calibration and delivery boundaries separately.

适用边界:Treating roller support force as web tension directly

12

Which mounting and mechanical layout checks belong before ordering?

Fix and document web angles and measuring axes without force bypass The installation drawing must match the available space and process or mechanical structure. Access for fitting and servicing should be established before delivery.

Verification: Review a dimensioned, oriented site drawing. Use "Speed, acceleration, friction and dynamic tension changes" and "Capacity must include roller weight and peak force, not target tension alone" to confirm connections, support, removal access and safe isolation.

适用边界:Capacity must include roller weight and peak force, not target tension alone

13

How can supporting infrastructure prevent an instrument that fits but cannot be used?

Check bearings, alignment, cabling and both supports Supporting conditions are part of the measurement system. Matching mechanical connections or signal names alone do not establish power, I/O, grounding or configuration compatibility.

Verification: Confirm "Bridge or conditioned output, supply and controller interface" and "Geometry conversion, tare, filtering and dynamic response" against actual terminals, loops and receiving-system settings.

适用边界:Retaining old scaling after changing wrap angle

14

What is a sensible commissioning sequence before changing correction factors?

Check identity, installation and basic conditions first, then status, output and process response. Establish dead weight then validate with loads at the actual wrap geometry Preserve original evidence for unexplained anomalies instead of concealing them with zero or factor adjustments.

Verification: Record factory settings and initial status. Investigate "No tension signal: inspect bridge and force alignment" step by step and change parameters only after identifying the cause and using an authorised procedure.

适用边界:Masking roller eccentricity or real tension cycles with heavy filtering

15

Do identical output units or interface names establish connection compatibility?

No. Establish the represented object and reference conditions: Definitions of total tension, tension per width and measured resultant. Electrical equipment also needs loop type, scaling, failure behaviour and protocol details checked. Mechanical indicators require clear boundaries between indication and remote-transmission accessories.

Verification: Check the receiving-system variable against "Required total tension and tension-per-width definition" and verify limits, units and abnormal states with the actual equipment. Record wiring, configuration and end-to-end checks against "Check bearings, alignment, cabling and both supports".

适用边界:Retaining old scaling after changing wrap angle

16

What should a calibration report contain to be relevant to the application?

Apply traceable forces through a documented web geometry and load path and record roller weight separately; validate geometric conversion in the installed tension system, not just electrical simulation. The report should identify the delivered instrument, measured quantity, conditions, method and results. A general conformity certificate does not establish performance for every option or operating condition.

Verification: Check serial number, points, units, reference equipment and traceability. Compare "Entry/exit directions, wrap angle and sensor measurement direction" with the calibrated conditions and agree separate acceptance where they differ.

适用边界:Static tare does not remove acceleration or bearing-friction effects

17

How can delivery and site acceptance use reproducible pass criteria?

Compare static output and response at representative speeds Agree criteria before testing, including range, conditions, error definition and treatment of anomalies. Similar-looking readings or an unsuitable portable reference are not sufficient acceptance evidence.

Verification: Choose an appropriate reference using "Apply traceable forces through a documented web geometry and load path and record roller weight separately; validate geometric conversion in the installed tension system, not just electrical simulation.". Record "Required total tension and tension-per-width definition" and test conditions; investigate "Proportional bias: check wrap angle, width basis and calibration factor" before deciding on rework or recalibration.

适用边界:Static tare does not remove acceleration or bearing-friction effects

18

What belongs in the quotation and agreement for a non-standard application?

Define why the standard supply is insufficient, the required verification and the responsible parties. Side-to-side differences may indicate uneven loading or web tracking, not just noise; Using static tare as compensation for every high-speed dynamic load. Additional materials, construction, documents or tests depend on actual requirements.

Verification: Attach "Material width, temperature, environment and control interface" and the deviations. Obtain technical confirmation, additional charges, delivery conditions and acceptance methods; unknown requirements must not be assumed satisfied.

适用边界:Side-to-side differences may indicate uneven loading or web tracking, not just noise

19

Where should investigation start when there is no valid reading or output?

No tension signal: inspect bridge and force alignment Distinguish the actual measured condition from device-state and readout or transmission faults. Do not immediately interpret missing data as sensor failure or a zero process value.

Verification: Under appropriate safe isolation, check "Check bearings, alignment, cabling and both supports". Compare local and receiving-end status and record when the fault appeared.

适用边界:Treating roller support force as web tension directly

20

How can unstable readings be separated from genuine process variation?

Speed-synchronous variation: inspect roller eccentricity, bearings and splices Compare independent process evidence and raw signals before deciding whether installation, interference or equipment is responsible. More filtering can hide a real abnormal event.

Verification: Keep conditions comparable and record correlation with process or equipment events. Check "Fix and document web angles and measuring axes without force bypass" and change one factor at a time.

适用边界:Masking roller eccentricity or real tension cycles with heavy filtering

21

How should a persistent high or low bias be investigated before changing factors?

Proportional bias: check wrap angle, width basis and calibration factor Systematic bias can arise from units, reference conditions, configuration, installation or the reference method. An unexplained correction can move one operating-point error to other conditions.

Verification: Align quantities, time bases and units first. Review the reference using "Apply traceable forces through a documented web geometry and load path and record roller weight separately; validate geometric conversion in the installed tension system, not just electrical simulation." and confirm that "Entry/exit directions, wrap angle and sensor measurement direction" matches the configuration.

适用边界:Static tare does not remove acceleration or bearing-friction effects

22

When is it appropriate to adjust a drifting zero or reference position?

Changed stopped zero: inspect residual tension, roller weight and binding Establish a genuine, stable reference condition that meets the method requirements before considering adjustment. Some instruments have no freely adjustable site zero.

Verification: Check "Establish dead weight then validate with loads at the actual wrap geometry" and "Apply traceable forces through a documented web geometry and load path and record roller weight separately; validate geometric conversion in the installed tension system, not just electrical simulation." and retain before-and-after results. If the conditions cannot be established, remove external effects or use a qualified service.

适用边界:Masking roller eccentricity or real tension cycles with heavy filtering

23

Which evidence helps diagnose intermittent alarms or failures?

Side mismatch: check alignment, uneven loading, tracking and sensitivity Intermittent faults need correlated event records, not just a normal display after recovery. Review alarm settings, communication status and actual process abnormalities separately.

Verification: Retain time, status codes, raw trends and the contemporaneous "Material width, temperature, environment and control interface". Compare "Check bearings, alignment, cabling and both supports" and "Establish dead weight then validate with loads at the actual wrap geometry" to locate the failing link.

适用边界:Using static tare as compensation for every high-speed dynamic load

24

Why should repeated failures trigger a cause review instead of another identical replacement?

Repeated failures warrant a common-cause assessment. Using static tare as compensation for every high-speed dynamic load If the external conditions remain unchanged, an identical construction or installation can experience the same failure again.

Verification: Summarise failed parts, service time and "Material width, temperature, environment and control interface". Check "Fix and document web angles and measuring axes without force bypass" and "Capacity must include roller weight and peak force, not target tension alone" and establish corrective action before selecting repair or redesign.

适用边界:Capacity must include roller weight and peak force, not target tension alone

25

What distinguishes a site comparison, an adjustment and a calibration?

Apply traceable forces through a documented web geometry and load path and record roller weight separately; validate geometric conversion in the installed tension system, not just electrical simulation. A comparison identifies differences; adjustment changes indication or parameters; calibration establishes a reference relationship under stated conditions. They are not interchangeable claims.

Verification: Define what performance and evidence must be established, using conditions relevant to "Entry/exit directions, wrap angle and sensor measurement direction". Retain original and adjusted results, references and responsibility records.

适用边界:Static tare does not remove acceleration or bearing-friction effects

26

What must be checked again after replacing an instrument with the same basic model?

The same basic model does not establish identical options, software, calibration or accessories. Geometry conversion, tare, filtering and dynamic response; Pair matching and calibration documentation. Previous system operation does not remove the need to verify a replacement.

Verification: Compare full order codes and revisions. Recheck critical points, failure states and interfaces using "Compare static output and response at representative speeds" before handover.

适用边界:Using static tare as compensation for every high-speed dynamic load

27

Can every published maximum rating be achieved simultaneously?

No. Converting roller resultant to tension needs explicit geometry and tension assumptions Maximum values usually relate to particular options and conditions. Temperature, load, pressure, materials, speed or signal conditions may constrain one another.

Verification: Review "Roller dead weight, supports and force distribution" and "Material width, temperature, environment and control interface" together. Obtain confirmation for the combined conditions instead of assembling unrelated maxima from separate pages.

适用边界:Converting roller resultant to tension needs explicit geometry and tension assumptions

28

Does a missing signal or zero indication establish that the process value is zero?

No. No tension signal: inspect bridge and force alignment Indication, measurement and transmission have distinct possible failure modes. Also consider "Treating roller support force as web tension directly"; establish the actual process condition independently.

Verification: Check available status or failure indications and "Bridge or conditioned output, supply and controller interface". For interlocks, follow the complete safety design rather than substituting a zero value for diagnosis.

适用边界:Treating roller support force as web tension directly

29

Does one acceptable test point establish compliance across the working range?

No. Apply traceable forces through a documented web geometry and load path and record roller weight separately; validate geometric conversion in the installed tension system, not just electrical simulation. Test points and directions must reflect the working interval, relevant error mechanisms and acceptance purpose. Multiple points, reversal or load tests depend on the method.

Verification: Define acceptance coverage against "Entry/exit directions, wrap angle and sensor measurement direction" and include critical operating points. Mark conditions outside the tests as unverified.

适用边界:Static tare does not remove acceleration or bearing-friction effects

30

Are the largest range, highest accuracy class and most options always preferable?

Not necessarily. Options should serve the required objective; excess configuration can add cost, complexity or incompatibility. Static tare does not remove acceleration or bearing-friction effects; Retaining old scaling after changing wrap angle. Establish essential requirements before comparing optional benefits.

Verification: Document the objective in "Required total tension and tension-per-width definition" and why "Definitions of total tension, tension per width and measured resultant" is needed. Compare performance at actual working points rather than one headline metric.

适用边界:Static tare does not remove acceleration or bearing-friction effects

31

Can every maintenance or recalibration interval simply be fixed at one year?

Not independently of risk and history. Apply traceable forces through a documented web geometry and load path and record roller weight separately; validate geometric conversion in the installed tension system, not just electrical simulation. Intervals depend on applicable law or contract, conditions, drift, maintenance and failure evidence. Generic advice cannot replace mandatory requirements.

Verification: Use "Changed stopped zero: inspect residual tension, roller weight and binding" and "Using static tare as compensation for every high-speed dynamic load" to establish and review an initial plan. Retain the justification and approval for interval changes.

适用边界:Using static tare as compensation for every high-speed dynamic load

32

Can parts from different brands be mixed if their physical interfaces fit?

Physical fit is insufficient. Roller structure, installation direction and mechanical limits; Bridge or conditioned output, supply and controller interface. Matching, materials, signals, calibration and approval boundaries can change with the combination.

Verification: Check the complete combination against "Check bearings, alignment, cabling and both supports" and obtain compatibility and acceptance evidence. An unconfirmed assembly must not be described as an approved system.

适用边界:Retaining old scaling after changing wrap angle

33

Does a hazardous-area, hygienic or safety label establish suitability for that duty?

Check the exact order configuration and valid documents rather than a series name. Pair matching and calibration documentation "Side-to-side differences may indicate uneven loading or web tracking, not just noise" also matters; certificates, installation conditions and restrictions together define suitability.

Verification: Obtain certificate identifiers, covered models and special conditions and match them to the site. Similar names do not grant functional-safety or legal-metrology approval.

适用边界:Side-to-side differences may indicate uneven loading or web tracking, not just noise

34

What evidence makes the final result acceptable, reproducible and sustainable?

Establish the chain from quantity definition and application limits through configuration, mounting, reference and operating status. Compare static output and response at representative speeds A normal indication or brochure alone cannot demonstrate continuing system reliability.

Verification: Put "Required total tension and tension-per-width definition", "Apply traceable forces through a documented web geometry and load path and record roller weight separately; validate geometric conversion in the installed tension system, not just electrical simulation." and "Side mismatch: check alignment, uneven loading, tracking and sensitivity" into the technical, acceptance and maintenance records, with responsibility for reviewing excursions.

适用边界:Side-to-side differences may indicate uneven loading or web tracking, not just noise

35

Can a DOWESTON model replace an installed instrument from another brand?

Possibly, after a full configuration and application comparison. A basic model name or matching output is not proof of equivalent replacement. Definitions of total tension, tension per width and measured resultant; Roller structure, installation direction and mechanical limits; Bridge or conditioned output, supply and controller interface. Record conclusions on material differences.

Verification: Provide the original full order code, data sheet and site conditions. Check "Geometry conversion, tare, filtering and dynamic response" and "Pair matching and calibration documentation" and obtain the necessary test and approval evidence before replacement.

适用边界:Side-to-side differences may indicate uneven loading or web tracking, not just noise

36

Why choose DOWESTON, and what would make that reasoning evidence-based?

Base the decision on project compliance and documented delivery or service, rather than a slogan. "Required total tension and tension-per-width definition" and "Converting roller resultant to tension needs explicit geometry and tension assumptions" are important family-specific checks. Claim only benefits supported by the offered product documents and written commitments.

Verification: Request the proposed configuration matching "Definitions of total tension, tension per width and measured resultant", test evidence and delivery/service terms. Do not infer unverified performance, approvals, origin or service life.

适用边界:Converting roller resultant to tension needs explicit geometry and tension assumptions

37

How can competing brands be compared beyond a single accuracy or price figure?

Use identical conditions and supply boundaries. Definitions of total tension, tension per width and measured resultant; Bridge or conditioned output, supply and controller interface; Pair matching and calibration documentation. Quotes with different ranges, compensation, accessories or calibration scope can conceal material differences.

Verification: Compare "Entry/exit directions, wrap angle and sensor measurement direction", "Static tare does not remove acceleration or bearing-friction effects" and mounting/acceptance conditions. Separate demonstrated, unverified and inapplicable items; do not claim unproven overall superiority.

适用边界:Static tare does not remove acceleration or bearing-friction effects

38

How should purchasing compare cost without overlooking additions or rework?

Compare complete supply and use-cycle costs, not only the main instrument price. Fix and document web angles and measuring axes without force bypass; Apply traceable forces through a documented web geometry and load path and record roller weight separately; validate geometric conversion in the installed tension system, not just electrical simulation. List the actual installation, supporting equipment, calibration, consumables, downtime and service requirements without assuming any brand is always cheaper.

Verification: Use the same "Definitions of total tension, tension per width and measured resultant" configuration and "Material width, temperature, environment and control interface" boundary. Separate equipment, accessories, commissioning and maintenance responsibilities and retain a traceable comparison.

适用边界:Side-to-side differences may indicate uneven loading or web tracking, not just noise

39

Why is roller force not necessarily equal to web tension?

Support force combines incoming/outgoing tension vectors and roller-weight effects; the sensor measures a selected component. Geometry is required before reporting web tension.

Verification: Draw entry/exit directions and the sensing axis, record wrap angle and weight and establish the free-body diagram.

适用边界:Converting roller resultant to tension needs explicit geometry and tension assumptions

40

What assumptions apply to a symmetric wrap-angle conversion?

With equal tensions and no additional forces, the resultant can be 2T sin(θ/2), with θ defined as the change in web direction. Other conventions or asymmetric geometry need another resolution.

Verification: Define the angle and resultant on the drawing and verify the conversion with a known load.

适用边界:Static tare does not remove acceleration or bearing-friction effects

41

Why must range and calibration be reviewed after changing the web angle?

A geometry change alters support force and the measured component at the same tension, potentially invalidating zero, scale and peak-load assumptions.

Verification: Record old/new angles, recalculate peak resultant and repeat installed-load verification.

适用边界:Capacity must include roller weight and peak force, not target tension alone

42

Can tension in N be compared directly with N/m?

No. N usually describes total force while N/m is tension per width. Use a consistent effective web width; an unchanged width factor can create proportional error.

Verification: Check units, effective width and controller settings against a known total force.

适用边界:Side-to-side differences may indicate uneven loading or web tracking, not just noise

43

Why can indicated tension change strongly during acceleration?

Roller inertia, bearing friction and web dynamics affect tension and support reactions during acceleration. Static tare does not remove these effects.

Verification: Record speed, acceleration and both support signals and compare steady and accelerating operation.

适用边界:Converting roller resultant to tension needs explicit geometry and tension assumptions

44

Why is one support sensor not always representative of both sides?

Web distribution, alignment, load position and bearing drag can change left/right reactions. One support need not carry half the resultant.

Verification: Apply known loads at defined positions and check side ratios before relying on a single-side estimate.

适用边界:Static tare does not remove acceleration or bearing-friction effects

45

How should roller weight be tared without hiding an installation problem?

First establish a stable, properly mounted roller with no web tension; only then tare as specified. Binding, uneven loading or residual tension must not be hidden in the baseline.

Verification: Retain both raw readings, inspect bearing freedom and confirm the absence of web tension.

适用边界:Capacity must include roller weight and peak force, not target tension alone

46

What should be checked for once-per-revolution tension variation?

Inspect roller eccentricity, surface geometry, bearings and local web changes and correlate the signal with rotation; the variation may be a real periodic force.

Verification: Record a speed reference with tension, check speed scaling of the variation and inspect mechanical causes.

适用边界:Side-to-side differences may indicate uneven loading or web tracking, not just noise

47

Why can a substantially oversized tension sensor be difficult to use?

Normal tension then produces a smaller fraction of full-scale signal, making noise, zero shifts and geometry errors more significant; sufficient dead-weight and peak-load margin is still essential.

Verification: Assess both minimum useful signal and maximum resultant with the actual amplifier.

适用边界:Converting roller resultant to tension needs explicit geometry and tension assumptions

48

Does oscillating closed-loop tension necessarily indicate a bad sensor?

No. Tuning, actuator delay, web elasticity or mechanical resonance can cause oscillation. Correlate raw force, control output, speed and web behaviour.

Verification: Compare manual and automatic operation safely, retaining parameters and checking loop dynamics systematically.

适用边界:Static tare does not remove acceleration or bearing-friction effects

49

Why is verification needed after replacing the roller or bearings?

Weight, geometry, friction, inertia or mounting height can change even if the sensor remains. Existing zero and calibration do not automatically remain valid.

Verification: Record component changes and recheck angle, zero, reference force and representative-speed behaviour.

适用边界:Capacity must include roller weight and peak force, not target tension alone

50

Why can a calibrated force sensor still give incorrect installed tension?

Individual force calibration does not cover installed angles, roller weight, support sharing, friction or bypass. Tension is a system result involving mechanics and geometry.

Verification: Verify known loading through the actual web path and file sensor calibration separately from system acceptance.

适用边界:Side-to-side differences may indicate uneven loading or web tracking, not just noise
