Establish the location and hazardous conditions
Record country or region, area classification, possible gases or dusts, ambient temperature and project document requirements. Explosion protection is more than a yes/no option. This page describes evidence checks and makes no certification claim for Doweston or any specific model.
European Union: ATEX is a regulatory framework
ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU covers equipment and protective systems for potentially explosive atmospheres, including essential requirements and conformity assessment. Check the applicable declarations, markings, certificates and special conditions. CE marking alone is not complete evidence of suitability for a hazardous application.
IECEx: check the official certification record
IECEx is an international certification system based on relevant IEC standards. Use the controlled record in its official online certificate system to match manufacturer, model, configuration and status. IECEx certification does not automatically establish permission for use in every country; local and project requirements still apply.
United States: review hazardous-location rules separately
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.307 addresses electrical hazardous locations and equipment suitability. Class, Division, Zone, group and temperature markings must match the site as applicable. Do not treat ATEX or IECEx markings as automatic acceptance for a US project. Project specialists must confirm the relevant approval and installation requirements.
Build an evidence list for the model
- Keep certificate number, issuing body, covered models and official lookup link.
- Check protection type, area, gas/dust groups, temperatures and special conditions.
- Match nameplate, selected configuration, accessories and installation documents.
- Mark missing evidence as unresolved; a standard name or certification icon is insufficient.
